In plain words
- By default, nothing you say is kept by Life Conversation after a conversation ends. The name it calls you, how it’s said and your preferences, such as captions, are kept as settings on your account. You can change them in Settings or by asking, and they’re deleted with your account.
- We never record or store your audio. Our speech provider processes it in the United States and may keep it under its own terms.
- Your words are sent to language model providers so they can choose each reply. They don’t train their models on your conversations.
- Memory is off unless you turn it on. You can read, change or delete your record at any time.
- The people running Life Conversation have no way to read or listen to your conversations, or to see your record, in the service.
- The conversation content we keep is encrypted. It isn’t end-to-end encryption: our server holds the key.
- No advertising and no tracking cookies.
- You can delete your account and data yourself, at any time.

What this notice covers
This notice covers this website, signing up for the free trial, and using Life Conversation.
What we collect
Your email address; the name you’d like to be called, how it’s said and how often you’d like it used; your time zone, read from your browser; your settings; when you agreed to our terms and which version you agreed to, and that you confirmed you are 18 or over; sign-in links and sessions, which we store only in a scrambled form that can’t be turned back into the original, together with your browser’s description of itself and when it was last used; statistics about each conversation, which hold timings and counts, which kinds of response it chose and whether its safety check for signs of serious harm was triggered, and never any of your words; feedback you choose to send, including any optional details about you; your carry-forward record, if you turn memory on; and a log of actions taken by the people who run the service. We also count visits to this website and steps in signing up as simple daily totals, with no cookies and without storing your IP address.
Your voice and words, and who processes them
To work at all, a conversation needs other companies. Your audio and the text of each reply go to a speech provider. The text of the conversation goes to language model providers so they can choose each reply. These are the providers we use:
| Provider | What it does | What it receives | Where it works | What it may keep |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ElevenLabs | Turns your speech into text, voices each reply, and transcribes spoken feedback | Your audio, and the text of each reply, which can include your name and your words | United States | Audio and text, under its own terms for our plan |
| Anthropic | The main language model, which chooses each reply and writes your record if memory is on | The text of the conversation | United States, and other countries | The text, for a limited time under its commercial terms. It doesn’t train its models on it. |
| Google Cloud (Vertex AI) | A second language model, asked for a reply whenever the main one is slow, and used if it fails | The text of the conversation | Google’s global endpoint, which can process anywhere; a fallback model runs in Belgium | The text, for a limited time under its Google Cloud terms. It doesn’t train its models on it. |
| Resend | Sends sign-in and trial emails | Your email address and the sign-in link | United States | Your email address and the emails it sent, in its delivery logs, under its own terms |
| Google Cloud (Compute Engine) | Hosts the service and its database, on our server in London | Everything the service stores | London, United Kingdom. Speech and language processing happen outside the UK, including in the United States. | Encrypted backups: a nightly copy of the database, kept for 30 days, and a daily snapshot of the server’s disk, kept for 14 days |
The models we use can change. If we add a provider, we’ll update this notice first.
Memory
Carry-forward memory is off by default. If you turn it on, at the end of each conversation a short record is written in plain language, together with a few standing details you’ve shared. To write it, the transcript is kept, encrypted, for up to 24 hours, and deleted as soon as the record is updated. You can read the record, change any part of it or delete it at any time. Turning memory off can delete the record too. The people running Life Conversation can’t see it in the service.
Sensitive information
What you talk about may include sensitive information, such as your health, beliefs or relationships. We process it only with your explicit consent, given when you sign up, and only to hold the conversation, to note in the statistics, without any of your words, whether its safety check for signs of serious harm was triggered, and, if you turn memory on, to keep the record. The record uses your own words and never guesses at things you haven’t said. You can withdraw consent by deleting your record or your account.
Why we use your data, and our lawful bases
To provide the conversation and your account (contract); to process sensitive information in conversations and the record, and to note whether the safety check was triggered (explicit consent); to keep your record (consent); to receive feedback and optional details about you (consent); to improve the service from statistics that contain none of your words, to keep it secure, to count daily totals, and to prevent abuse of the free trial (legitimate interests); and to keep records we’re required to keep (legal obligation).
How long we keep things
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Audio | Not stored by us |
| Transcript, without memory | Not stored |
| Transcript, with memory | Until the record is written, and never longer than 24 hours |
| Your record | Until you delete it or your account is removed |
| Statistics and feedback | Until your account is removed |
| Emailed links | They work once. Sign-in links last 30 minutes, email confirmation links 24 hours, invitation links 14 days and sign-up links 30 minutes. Used and expired links are deleted within 7 days. |
| Sessions | 30 days from last use |
| After a free trial ends without a plan | 60 days, then the account and everything in it is deleted |
| Backups | Deleted data can remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days, and is then gone. |
| Admin action log | Kept; your email is removed from it when you delete your account |
When you delete your account, it’s removed from the service straight away.
If you delete your account after a free trial, we keep a one-way fingerprint of your email address, which can’t be turned back into the address, so that the free trial can’t be started again with it.
Transfers outside the UK
Some providers process your data outside the UK, including in the United States. The table in section 4 shows where each one works. To ask about a particular transfer, contact us.
Training
The language model providers we use don’t train their models on your conversations. For our speech provider, whether content can be used for training depends on the terms of our plan.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, object to some uses, or withdraw consent at any time. Most of this you can do yourself in Settings and on your record page. For anything else, contact us. There’s no automated download yet, so we’ll send a copy by email. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Age
Life Conversation is for adults aged 18 and over.
Security
Conversation content we keep is encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, and everything is encrypted in transit. This isn’t end-to-end encryption: our server holds the key so it can write your record. Conversation content is never written to our logs.
Emails
We email you only to sign you in, to confirm a change of email address, once before your free trial ends, and to tell you about a change to this notice or our terms that matters. We don’t send newsletters or reminders to come back.
